How It Works – Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE)
Plate Heat Exchangers, also known as Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers, consist of a series of loose plates and gaskets. Fluids flow on opposite sides of these plates. The plate and gasket design prevents contamination between the hot and cold fluids. The corrugated plate pattern creates turbulence, which maximizes heat transfer efficiency by increasing the heat exchange surface area. Many designs use a herringbone pattern, where the angle of the pattern influences both pressure drop and heat transfer rate.
